I am a fourth-year PhD student at ETH Zurich, where I am fortunate to be advised by Gustavo Alonso and Torsten Hoefler. Before joining the Systems Group at ETH Zurich, I earned my Master’s degree from Columbia University and my Bachelor’s degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, both with honors. I have been recognized as one of the ML and Systems Rising Stars and received the AMD HACC Outstanding Researcher Award.
I work on systems for machine learning, with a focus on developing efficient vector data systems on modern hardware. For example, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) combines LLMs with external knowledge databases, incorporating context-specific knowledge via vector search during generation, so as to produce more reliable and up-to-date content. As Moore’s Law fades, my work aims to enhance vector data system efficiency through cross-stack solutions that span data management, computer architecture, computer systems, and machine learning. My contributions include building specialized hardware accelerators, designing efficient system architectures, and inventing new algorithms for vector search and RAG.
